KONE Corporation, press release, May 7,
2020
KONE
Corporation, a global leader in the elevator and escalator
industry, has won four awards for its KONE DX Class elevators in
the renowned Red Dot Award: Product Design 2020 competition. The
KONE DX Class elevator interior collection and the KONE DX Class
digital experience elevator concept were awarded for their
outstanding design features, innovativeness and smart
elements.
Launched in 2019, the KONE DX Class is the world's first digital
elevator series. With built-in connectivity as standard, it brings
a new user experience to life through a combination of design,
technology, new materials, apps and services. The offering features
a whole new variety of design options and innovations, including
anti-stain, anti-scratch, and anti-bacterial surfaces, that help
keep the equipment clean and contribute to a healthier environment.
Moreover, the collection includes a range of sustainable materials
to meet green building criteria like BREEAM and LEED. Advanced
dynamic displays can be used to improve communication in buildings,
while sound and lighting options transform the ambience and
interior of the elevators. The KONE DX Class enables customers to
adapt and upgrade the elevator experience according to needs over
the entire lifetime of a building.
"We are thrilled and
honored to have received these esteemed awards for our new KONE DX
Class elevators," says Visa Rauta, head of KONE Design. "The whole
offering was developed in close collaboration with our customers
around the globe, resulting in a collection that is set to bring
meaningful experiences and well-being for people in urban
environments. With sustainable and innovative materials, the KONE
DX Class allows the creation of personalized, eye-catching and safe
elevator experiences for any building and contributes to making
cities better places to live in."
The Red Dot Design Award dates back to 1955 and today, it is one of
the world's largest and most recognized design competitions with
more than 18,000 entries. The competition breaks down into three
disciplines of Red Dot Award: Product Design, Red Dot Award: Brands
& Communication Design and Red Dot Award: Design Concept. In
2020, designers and companies from 60 countries entered over 6,500
products in the Red Dot Award: Product Design competition - more
than ever before. When judging the products, the jury assess not
just the aesthetic but also the materials selected, the level of
craftsmanship, the surface structure, ergonomics and functionality.
This year the competition also introduced two new meta categories -
Innovative Products and Smart Products - and KONE DX Class
elevators were awarded in both.
The rewarded KONE DX Class elevator offering continues KONE's
success in product design. KONE's products and solutions have been
awarded the coveted Red Dot product design awards also in 2016,
2015, 2014 and 2012.
The KONE DX Class elevator series has been available in European
markets from December 2019 onwards, and it will be rolled out to
other areas during 2020-2021.
